Let me continue the prospective look in Mediation Tales with a short summary of what I can do in the future for you with mediation.
I can—
- Mediate on short notice. My practice is such that I can mediate your case or pre-suit dispute on shorter notice than other mediators. If you get a situation where something has changed about your case or a judge has continued your trial and you don’t want to wait, you can call or email me to set a conference up very quickly.
- Mediate cases back-to-back. Let’s say you have two cases with the same firm or insurance company. You would like to settle both promptly, but how do you do that? I’m willing and able to mediate one case in the morning and one case in the afternoon at the same office or other conference space. Just give me a few minutes for a snack and a stretch break and I can mediate two cases in sequence. This used to be standard procedure in the last court I worked in. I can also Zoom mediate cases on the same day.
- Set up a Settlement Day. To follow up on the prior comment, if you have similar matters, like workers comp, foreclosure, or smaller personal injury cases, all with the same party on one side of several cases, we can work together to set multiple cases in one day. The cases could be blocked in 60- or 90-minute intervals to get four or six cases discussed and resolved in one day.
- Mediate the truly unusual case or dispute. In my career, I’ve mediated about every case you can imagine—a business dispute that started over one cow, a mid-trial mediation about a failed business, noise complaints between neighbors, a single non-compete case assigned to me that led to multiple concurrent settlements at the state trial court, state appellate court, and federal trial court levels (seven cases in a package), and another non-compete case that had been the subject of three separate suits over fourteen (14!) years. There have been others too numerous to recall. Peculiarity or difficulty of the case does not bother me; unusual situations just provide me with the kind of intellectual challenge I relish!
